Who I Am
Professional
Balancing the demands of motherhood, particularly with three special needs children, while supporting a military spouse, requires an extraordinary measure of resilience and dedication. Holding a bachelor's degree in Accounting and in Business Management, I have honed my ability to navigate complex financial landscapes, ensuring stability and foresight in an ever-changing environment.
My academic background equips me with the skills to provide meticulous financial guidance, while my personal experiences foster a deep understanding of the unique challenges faced by families in similar situations. This dual expertise allows me to approach accounting with both technical acumen and empathy.
My journey in education and career development began shortly after high school when I enrolled at Texas A&M University in Corpus Christi. Although my time there was brief, lasting just a year, it laid the groundwork for my ambition. I found myself needing to return to California, where the desire for service led me to join the military. However, just four weeks into Basic Training, I faced an unexpected challenge as I was medically separated due to an unknown internal complication.
Upon my return home, I redirected my focus back to academics and enrolled at Independence University San Diego. There, I earned my associate degrees in Accounting and Business Management, which ignited my passion for numbers and finance. My personal life flourished alongside my education, as I got married and relocated to Texas.
In Texas, I began my professional career as a tech consultant for H&R Block, which further honed my skills in the financial sector. This experience paved the way for my role at Stacey Durham CPA. Here, I immersed myself in tax preparation and bookkeeping, while also pursuing my bachelor's degrees in Accounting and Business Management. The experience I gained was invaluable, providing a solid foundation for my expertise.
After taking a brief hiatus to care for my children, I returned to the workforce as a Bookkeeper at Anderson Business Advisors. This position allowed me to integrate my academic background with practical application, enhancing my proficiency in managing financial records and ensuring compliance. Each step of my journey has been instrumental in shaping my professional identity and commitment to excellence in the field of bookkeeping and accounting.
I am committed to creating innovative financial strategies that cater not only to individual needs but also to broader family goals. This specialized approach ensures that each financial decision is purpose-driven and aligns with both immediate and long-term aspirations, fostering an environment where both my family and my clients can thrive amidst life's complexities.
As of early 2025, I have embarked on the qualification process to achieve the Enrolled Agent (EA) licensing. This status will enable me to represent clients before the IRS, an essential credential that underscores my commitment to providing comprehensive tax services.
The journey entails a rigorous examination of tax codes and regulations, focusing on federal tax law, ethics, and representation practices. Completing the necessary requirements for certification, I am dedicated to expanding my expertise and enhancing the value I offer to clients in navigating complex taxation matters.
This professional advancement aligns seamlessly with my objective of offering sophisticated financial guidance, ensuring that clients receive meticulous, informed assistance in all aspects of bookkeeping and accounting. I look forward to the opportunities that this qualification will bring, reinforcing my role as a trusted advisor in the ever-evolving financial landscape.
Personal
Born into an Air Force family in Washington State, my early years were marked by the rhythms of military life—a tapestry woven with change and resilience. Relocating to the Coastal Bend of South Texas as a small child, I found a new home among the farmlands between the Aransas Pass and Gregory-Portland area.
As the oldest child and daughter in a family of nine, I became an early steward of responsibility and nurturing. My Navy father, along with a legacy of service from my grandfather and great-grandfather, instilled in me values of dedication and honor. These roots shaped my character and guided me through the shifts and transitions of youth.
After moving to California for my senior year of high school, I experienced the vibrancy of a different culture and the challenges of adaptation. Yet, the pull of home was undeniable. I returned to the Coastal Bend to pursue my college education, reconnecting with the land that had long molded my identity.
In the wake of a medical emergency involving my youngest sibling, I made the decision to return to California. This period was marked by my dual role of caregiver and protector, as I transitioned through the requisite steps to join the Navy. However, unforeseen medical complications led to my separation from the military, redirecting my path once again.
Relocating to San Diego offered fresh opportunities. I resumed my college education, reigniting my passion for learning in an environment rich with potential. It was during this pivotal time that I crossed paths with my husband. Our shared experiences and aspirations deepened our connection, culminating in our marriage.
Together, we embarked on a new chapter, moving to Texas to build a life together. This journey continues to shape our future and expand our horizons, a testament to resilience in the face of adversity and the serendipity of love.
When our oldest daughter was two years old and I was pregnant with our second, my husband made a significant decision that would shape our family's journey. Feeling a longing for the structure, routine, and camaraderie of military life, he joined the Navy Reserves. This choice not only brought a renewed sense of purpose but also introduced a unique rhythm to our household.
Fast forward to 2023, my husband transitioned from the Reserve Component to Active Duty, marking a new chapter in his career and our lives. This change necessitated a move to Virginia Beach, Virginia, a vibrant area rich with military culture and community. As we embraced this new environment, we found ourselves navigating the intricacies of military family life, forging connections, and adjusting to the demands that come with active duty service.
Our experiences deepened our understanding of sacrifice and support within the military community. With each new day, our family's bond strengthened, and we began to cultivate a life filled with resilience, adventure, and growth amidst the backdrop of Virginia Beach's beautiful shores.
